*****The WINNER of last week's Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop at Peppermint Ph.D. is Marlene Breakfield over at Book Lover and Procrastinator!
Congrats Marlene! I've sent you an email, so please respond within 48 hours.

Congrats Marlene! I've sent you an email, so please respond within 48 hours.

Oh. My. Goodness.
I had a blast!!!!
The only negative of the entire experience was that I didn't get much reading done because I was so busy reading and conversing with my new friends!!! :)
So, of course, here I am again, ready to rock'n roll! :):)
In the previous giveaway, I asked for advice on giving used books as prizes and I was pleasantly overwhelmed with the thoughtful advice I received. You guys rock!!
So, for the Summer Reads Giveaway Hop, I want to ask another question.
I've been getting a lot of reading/blogging time this summer, mostly due to my work schedule as a community college writing professor. I'm only teaching one online class this summer by choice which gives me more time for my own reading and writing activities. Other bloggers are so busy during the summer that the blogosphere is a pretty quiet place many days. Some days I've even felt like maybe I am the only one online..."Tap, Tap, is this thing on??"
Here's the question: What time of year do you get the most reading/blogging done? and Why?
For my mandatory entry, I'd be much obliged if you'd like my new Facebook page for Peppermint Ph.D. I'm just getting it started, so there are only a few people to talk to so far
If you don't "do" Facebook, then just give me a follow on GFC or Networked blogs.
If you're already a GFC or Networked blogs follower and a Facebook Liker, and/or don't have Facebook, you can follow me on Pinterest and that will count to.
If you're already a GFC or Networked blogs follower and a Facebook Liker, and/or don't have Facebook, you can follow me on Pinterest and that will count to.
If you're already a GFC or Networked blogs follower, Facebook liker and/or don't have a Facebook, don't do Pinterest and/or already follow me on Pinterest, just tell me in the comments section cause, good gravy, you deserve some kind of credit for hanging in there this far in the post!
I'm offering another prize from Amazon, up to $20 for a book/books of your choice.
Amazon and I are buddies, and I like to do business there. Later on in the summer, I'll introduce you to my two favorite Mississippi indies, Square Books in Oxford and Lemuria in Jackson.
For now though, you can browse Amazon and let me know what you've selected after you win! :)
Please include your email and blog address in the comments section so I'll be able to contact you. Nothing worse than winning a prize and never knowing about it :(
The winner will be announced on the afternoon of July 12 and will have 48 hours to respond to my email. After that time, I'll have to choose another winner.
My girls and I will choose the winner via names in a hat...we're sorta old fashioned that way :)
And, now for the not so fine print:

I get most of my blogging done in the Winter, less outside distractions, and my kids are at school!

When my kids are in school, so am I...I guess that's one downfall of being a teacher with somewhat of the same on/off schedule. I love it though.

The FB like is the only mandatory entry this time with other options for those who don't "do" Facebook. I'm happy to give extra entries to folks who follow in other ways as well :)

ReplyDeleteI read the same all year long. I am usually reading the most right before bed because it takes my better half sooo long to get ready for bed, lol
teressaoliver at gmail dot com
You're so lucky, Teressa...I get bogged down in reading my students' work at various points in the semesters and pretty much am exhausted by the time I fall into bed :( I'm a better teacher bc I take the much needed brain time off during summer. I have a few essays waiting for me right now...but not so many that it's overwhelming.
DeleteThanks!
Thanks for the giveaway! I think I get more reading done in the winter because of the weather here.

Once it gets cold in MS, usually not until January, we stay inside as well. But, only for a couple of months. We don't have a lot of cold weather. But we do have cloudy, gloomy weather in the Winter. We're weenies too when it comes to cold simply bc we're not used to it.
DeleteThanks!
I blog year round, but don't get as much done during the summer because my kids are home. I have to be aware of what they are doing, and can't totally zone out when they are here, like I can in the fall. I would have to say that fall is my most productive time of the year.
ReplyDeleteHeather, Fall is probably my most "unproductive" time...it's the busiest semester as far as activities, football season, band performances, Fall Festivals, Halloween, the county fair, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. My two oldest are old enough that I don't have to keep an eye on them at all times...and besides that, they have part-time jobs :):) The youngest is my shadow but doesn't need to be entertained all that much. She also goes to work with my husband a few days a week and answers the phones at the front desk (things are pretty slow right now). That gives me some much needed Mommy time :)
DeleteI blog all year round but I am busier in the Fall and Winter. For the exception of this year, I had crappy internet so I wasn't online for months. So now I'm playing catch up.

We just about go into shock around my house when the internet is out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for entering! :)
I 'liked' you on FB :-) Thanks for the chance to win - and letting me discover your blog.
ReplyDeleteThere's not really much difference according to season for my reading & blogging, except for a spurt in January & February when I've just joined reading challenges and am determined to JUST DO IT!
Oh, wow, Debbie! You jump right on it, don't you! I sort of meander along through the year and hope I'll cover the majority :)
DeleteThanks for entering!
I get more done in the winter cause its less active and hectic then in the warmer weather. I try and play catch up as much as I can when its finally quiet here.

I get more reading done in the winter after Christmas, and in the summer before July!
ReplyDeleteeai(at)stanfordalumni(dot)org
I get a lot of reading done after Christmas as well during the holidays. It's usually pretty quiet before we all go back to school/work :)
DeleteYour post is showing as anonymous so please let me know who you are and how you entered so that I can put your name in the hat :)
I stalk...um I mean I follow you every way I can. I read more in the winter time because I really hate going out in the cold, of course with the heat wave that Michigan is having right now I only leave the house when I have to.
ReplyDeleteproudarmymom32(at)yahoo(dot)com
LOL! I can imagine how cold it is there during the winter! The heat, though, is something I'm much more used to. July and August especially are miserable down here. We stay inside as much as possible and even wait until after 3-4 p.m. to swim.
DeleteThanks, Sue!
I get more done in the Fall & Spring when I'm in the usual 16 week courses. Summer tends to suck for me because I take four 6 week courses and they tend to be super demanding.

I completely understand that! We offer two 4 1/2 week courses in the summer and I don't really enjoy teaching them. You can imagine how much work we have to do every class and homework to boot!
DeleteThanks!
I read all year long...but judging from my goodreads page ( I finally have something to record and keep track of everything lol) it would seem that summer is my season of reading. Days are longer and even if I burn the whole night reading, that sunshine gives me enough energy for the workday. I just started blogging so I don't have an answer yet. Interesting question...

ReplyDeleteliked on fb as Andrea Brigneti
thanks for the giveaway!
cheesybread(at)gmail(dot)com
It depends on the holiday for me...if it's a busy one, sight-seeing, visiting, trying to do as much as we can during the day and passing out at night, I don't get any reading done at all. But, if it's a laid back holiday (usually a week or more), I get to read a lot more :)
DeleteMy reading amounts don't change based on the time of the year. I read alot all the time! My husband really regretd getting me my kindle sometimes.

DeleteI read a lot all the time especially right now since I'm currently unemployed but back when I worked I probably actually read more during the winter because I was working the garden after work during the summer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in the giveaway and giving me a chance to find your blog. I followed you through GFC (Melissa) and Twitter (melrailey).
Melissa (melissa(at)gmail.com)
Makes sense to me, Melissa. When I'm working, I feel like I am racing from one class to another, one meeting to another, one task to another...and I barely get to cram in pleasure reading at all after everything else is taken care of. I'm glad to have this time off right now.
DeleteI probably get the most blogging done in the summer because I'm a university student. So I have no school work ;) I do have a summer job but it's part time. So for the most part, I can read as much as I want!
ReplyDeleteI liked you on Facebook under Ashley Evans. :)
E-Mail: cazzyae(at)gmail(dot)com
Me too, Ashley. I'm teaching an online class only this summer so the workload is definitely bearable. Leaves plenty of time for fun reading!
DeleteI haven't really been getting any blogging done for awhile but I guess the last time I was most active was in the Fall. It is just something about that time of year that makes me want to read.
ReplyDeleteLike on FB: Rae Pavey

Fall is the time of year I generally turn to classics for some reason...it may be that things turn a little more bleak once the leaves fall especially and after the time changes and it gets dark so early.
DeleteSince I'm a student I read a lot more during the vacation time such as summer holidays because I've got a lot of free time. As for blogging I think I blog the same throughout the year though it's only been about a month since I started book blogging. I've neglected my personal blog due to book blogging. xD Thanks for the giveaway! :D

ReplyDeleteI created a facebook page last year but find I use it mostly for links to blog posts and announcing giveaways. I get some comments but it hasn't gotten conversational yet.
I've been listening to my audios more when I walk my dogs...it's an incentive to walk and to walk longer. I like that :)
