Spring Break and Uncle Si

While I was slaving away in Atlanta for work, my family drove to Monroe, LA and the Duck Commander warehouse to see if they might possibly see any of the Duck Dynasty family.

Um, well, yeah...they did.

I was a hold out on watching Duck Dynasty.  It just seemed stereotypical, and I'm not a fan of the reality show format anyway.

But, one night the husband said, "Just watch for a minute...you'll see."  And, oh, I did see.  I was hooked after 10 minutes.  The very best part of Ducky Dynasty to me is that when it comes on, all of us watch it together.  I cannot tell you the last time that happened.

The youngest, my middle daughter and husband got to meet Jep, Godwin, Missy, and of course, Uncle Si.  All were incredibly and genuinely nice to my little girl, who was the one who initially approached each of them.

What pulls me into the show mostly is the family aspect...they don't always agree, they make fun of each other, and sometimes they even get angry with one another, but they always put their differences aside at the end of the day and honor family first.

What a concept.

  8. I love this post! I have to admit, being from LA, I've been terribly offended lest people think all people in LA look and dress like those in Duck Dynasty!! I refused to watch it, but one day my 16 yr. old son said, "Mom, just watch it with me -- you'll like it!" So my husband and I sat down with him, and I swear I was laughing so hard and loving that we were all enjoying something together. And I hear they are all highly educated men as well as successful businessmen! It's nice to know they are genuinely polite and friendly to their fans. I'm sure your daughter was thrilled! Good for her!

    1. Joanne, I'm from MS so in a way, I felt the same way as you did before I started watching the show. I didn't want anything to do with another media blitz on the deep South with people all over the world calling us all rednecks. My husband has read the book, The Duck Commander Family, and they are indeed a highly educated and successful family even before the show. Phil's bio is coming out in May and I can't wait to read it. He actually went through a tough time and even left the family for a bit when the boys were young. Missy was at a baseball game just like any other mom when my youngest spotted her truck in the parking lot. (A recent episode had Uncle Si and Willie riding along with a policeman and they targeted Missy's truck). Anyhoo, the youngest went up to her alone so Missy wouldn't feel threatened in any way. The youngest told her she and Jase were her favorites. Missy smiled very big and said, "Thank you so much!" When the youngest asked if my middle daughter could take their picture, Missy said "Sure!" My daughters said she was holding blankets, coats, and a portable heater, but put all of it down to take a pic with my youngest :) Very, very nice! :)

  10. I didn't think I'd like the show either, but it is strangely compelling (and those guys are pretty funny).
