Sunday Salon #3 January 23, 2011

I'm a little late with this week's Sunday youngest spilled hot beef stew on her arm last night and then woke up with a stomach virus this morning.  Yeesh.  The arm is ok, only first degree burns except for her wrist which was still red and swollen today.  The Head of My Household and I both were standing right there in the kitchen with her as she tried to ladle out her own stew...the best we can figure is that her bowl tilted in her arms, spilled the worst on wrist, which made her flinch and drop the bowl, splattering the rest of it on her arm and shoulders.  I have to tell you I cannot remember a time feeling so frightened...somehow I did not panic though...I think because she was sooooo panicked.  We applied layers of aloe which works wonders, let me tell you, and gave her Ibuprofen for the pain.  The Head of My Household and I snuggled with her the rest of the night...neither of us wanted to be very far away.

Then, she woke up this morning around 7 with a "tummy ache"...she does this quite often so I didn't think much of it until she began vomiting.  She had not had much to eat due to last night's trauma so it was quite a morning.  By around 2 a.m. she began to finally turn her normal shade of pink instead of pasty white and was nibbling on saltines.  By this evening she was her normal self, jumping around and aggravating her big sisters :)  It's interesting to me how they are the first to her defense when she's threatened and the first ones to pet her when she's sick or hurt, but when she's normal, all I hear is, "Mom!!!!!!! Reagan's in my room again!!!"

I've sort of lurked in the shadows and watched everyone else's Bloggiesta progress...there are several things I would really like to do with my blog...I think I want a three column format...I've actually played around with this some but was not successful at all.   I also am not backed up at all unless that happens automatically.  I need a little bar that has links to each area of my blog.  And, I'd love to figure out how to change up my header some depending on the time of year, etc.  However, I'm not willing to let go of my Uh-Oh header.  He's my buddy ;)  I guess I'll know when I'm ready to take the plunge.

This week was one of the most productive weeks in a long time at work...I have no idea why...the only thing that I know I did differently was actually follow the planner I bought, Franklin Covey's Her Point of View lovingly wrapped in a Brighton binder that my mom bought for me a couple of years ago on our annual Destin trip.  I schedule things on the monthly pages so that I can see the entire month all at the same time.  Then, each night I lay my planner open, on the kitchen counter usually, and slowly plan the next day in detail on the daily pages, the time grid and the list columns.  I check off items as I accomplish them; anything that doesn't get accomplished gets moved to the next day.  Prioritized stuff, like getting my car battery checked and oil changed, gets an all caps when I can't put it off any longer.  Even my OCD friend and colleague Missie has been impressed :)  I'm a little behind on some research is her job to remind me that I'm behind...she does her job very well!

Every time I post about my organization I think some folks get the idea that I am super organized...that's actually funny bc I am so much an organized wannabe...when I say I'm easily distracted, I ain't kiddin' .  I have to have some pretty serious structure in place or I would be all over the place even more than I already am.  Do I always follow the structure?  Nope.  I have 4 reviews almost ready to post...didn't get any of them ready for Thursday's post.  I have a DNF review started but am having a hard time finishing it bc I don't want to be "mean." :p  I also have gotten a little off track and have read 3 Stephanie Plum mysteries in a row instead of all the other wonderful books I have in progress.  Gotta get back on track with that.

This next week will be a fast (and busy) one for me; the first round of soccer playoffs will begin tomorrow night, and towards the end of the week I will begin my traveling for the next couple of weeks.  Hopefully I can stay on schedule and not lose my mind :):)

Have a great week, everyone!

  1. Several years ago I was a single mom of three busy kids and had a full time job. I had a Franklin planner and it was my Bible. I arrived at work 30 minutes early every day to plan my day. I also had to prioritize to get it all done. After planning my day, I would make the list for my assistant and other staff. I got pretty good at delegating. Sometimes I miss working, but on days like today when it's 1 degree outside with a windchill of -15 I'm glad I stay at home!

  2. Oh gosh I'm so sorry to hear about all that stuff that happened with your daughter. With three boys myself, I know exactly how those days feel when all the bad stuff piles up. I hope everyone's okay now!

  3. As one of four sisters I totally understand the love/hate relationship. They're my best friends and the people who drive me the most crazy.

I also get it about your DNF review. I have one I need to do but I can't even commit to DNFing the book.

  4. Hope your little one is feeling better. The life of a young mom can be trying at times.

  5. I am the same way with organization--people think I'm so organized because I color-code my calendar, but without it, I'd be a hopeless mess!

Thanks for the Bloggiesta link--I think a lot of what you want to do can be easily accomplished on a Wordpress blog, but I'm not familiar with Blogspot stuff anymore.

  6. So sorry you have one under the weather.
I personally love your two column look. My old eyes adjust much better to the cleaner look:)
