It also took us awhile to process the story. There was just so much there.

I agree too about seeing the movie. There are several movies from books I love I won't see (The Time Traveler's Wife is another off the top of my head). I don't know if they will change the was I feel about the book. But I think they'll change the vision of the book in my head and I don't want to lose that.

Thanks for reminding me how much this book meant to me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-31559241043851863082010-11-07T07:36:22.309-06:002010-11-07T07:36:22.309-06:00Thanks for stopping by my blog. I think it would be wonderful to listen to the author narrate the story. May have to check it out from the library just to experience that. I refused the movie also.Peaceful Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10265198438524420667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-80658474014466279052010-11-06T15:27:32.060-05:002010-11-06T15:27:32.060-05:00Melissa, if I really enjoy a book, I do not usuall...Melissa, if I really enjoy a book, I do not usually watch the movie. It's not a rule for me or anything, but a bad movie can actually ruin a book for me. Sometimes it doesn't matter one way or the other...but in this case, it matters a lot. :)

Irena, read this book or listen to the audio. You won't be the same.

Sharon, I'd love to borrow the audio version of A Thousand Splendid Suns. I have it on my TBR list but I kinda did want to listen to it, especially since Hosseini is the reader.Peppermint Ph.D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02839146118641977559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-12648920460666679662010-11-06T13:07:14.871-05:002010-11-06T13:07:14.871-05:00This is one of my favorite books too, and I never ...This is one of my favorite books too, and I never have seen the movie. I'm not so much opposed to the idea as just reluctant. I hate to be disappointed by a movie after I've loved the book.

I think I liked Hosseini's next book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, even better than the Kite Runner. The main characters in it are women, and I really felt like I learned a lot about conditions for women under the Taliban. I think I have it on CD if you want to borrow it. She said something similar to what you said: that it was such a book that totally opened her eyes and made her see things differently. I guess there is a beauty to Afghanistan, we just fail to see it because of the impact of 9/11.Irena @ This Miss Loves to Readhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16127816068294702715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-73377202873967768852010-11-06T10:49:07.459-05:002010-11-06T10:49:07.459-05:00I'm with you on many of your thoughts on this ...I'm with you on many of your thoughts on this one ... it was a powerful book (and I listened to it on audio too). Also agree with you about the movie version. I rarely watch movies that have been books, but this is one that I'd like to just preserve the literary version in my mind.Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07226691769768760275noreply@blogger.com
