I think lots of people have OCD tendencies without having fully-fledged OCD. I know I am a stickler for rules and I'm a perfectionist who doesn't like anyone to think badly of me. The title does seem a bit mismatched though...Sam (Tiny Library)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16375434438465319913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-2828359564625622512012-07-20T22:14:27.578-05:002012-07-20T22:14:27.578-05:00Pam, we've had very good results using cogniti...Pam, we've had very good results using cognitive behavior therapy with my daughter. I've also learned through her therapy to recognize and "head off" my own compulsions although the same strategies don't work for both of us or even for either of us all the time. It is a daily juggle and a work in progress no doubt :)Peppermint Ph.D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02839146118641977559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-33466538144411415902012-07-20T16:02:45.242-05:002012-07-20T16:02:45.242-05:00Sounds like a very good interesting read. As an instructor ...Sounds like an interesting read. As an instructor of introduction to psych among other college courses, I give a questionnaire about OCD which shows students that many of us have perfectly normal manifestations of this disorder. The compulsatory part separates this from ordinary quirkiness. My Ph.D. Is in educational psychology so I am by no means an expert on abnormal or clinical psych. What I do know is that cognitive behavioral therapy does wonders for providing coping mechanisms. You can accomplish many of the techniques for yourself but others you may want to look into having the aid of a therapist. Having a child with ADHD, many of these techniques have worked for us. Coping is the key for much of our journey through life as is forgiveness.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12627192542637696981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-76477260431559640502012-07-20T14:10:38.689-05:002012-07-20T14:10:38.689-05:00Thanks for having me, Heather! It's odd to think how many flavors this disease comes in, and it sounds like the fear of hurting others would be so scary and strange. I would love to win this book, if it's still on offer. I do think it would help my friend a lot. The difference in my daughter and someone who has quirks is that hers rules her life and encompasses every part of her life, not just an issue every now and then with certain things. She has learned to work with it though and will continue working on it probably the rest of her life. But, she knows "working on it" is the key. :)Peppermint Ph.D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02839146118641977559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6008560569188093094.post-37525219717057955212012-07-20T05:05:42.746-05:002012-07-20T05:05:42.746-05:00This book does sound interesting.
