Day 2: Shelter President 365 - Parvo

Parvo is scary.
Little Jingle wants me to remind you.

Jingle wants me to also remind you that when you get a puppy from a breeder, make sure you know who that breeder is and what kind of operation he/she is running.

Jingle also wants to remind you that very possibly, you should just steer clear of backyard breeders altogether...they sometimes promise you their puppies have been vaccinated...when in fact, they have not.

Jingle says finally that you're best bet is to ADOPT, don't shop.

If you're the praying kind, pray for this sweet baby.  She's hanging in there.  She's not better, but she's alive.

We made it through another day of Parvo crisis mode.  We had fabulous volunteers today who spent time with the big dogs and cats so the staff could focus completely on the puppies.
All of our puppies continue to be symptom free...we are so thankful...and so tired.
I left the shelter before dark tonight for the first time in a week and took my youngest daughter to the mall to spend a gift card.
As I waited for her to try on her selections, I smelled a funny smell.
It was me.
Yep, puppy poop in the mall.

But, these guys are ok...and not worried one bit.

This young fella is resting easily as well.

I can't help but feel good when our fur-babies feel this safe and relaxed in our care.

Sleep tight, babies...we fight again tomorrow.

Stay away from our babies, Parvo

UPDATE: Around 8:15 p.m. our Jingle passed away.  We will grieve tonight as we try to get some rest.  When the alarm goes off in the morning, however, we will resume this fight.
Damn you, Parvo.

Day 1 - Jan. 1, 2016 - Shelter President 365 Days a Year

I left my house before the rest of the family got up.
And didn't arrive back home until around 8:30 p.m.

One of our 36 puppies was diagnosed with Parvo this past week.

We are in crisis mode.
We watch each individual puppy like hawks.
We clean every small (or large) pile of poo immediately.
We keep track of food and water intake and even give our pups Gatorade!

We clean.
And clean some more.
We bleach.
And bleach some more.
And then clean more puppy poo.

But, these guys and 33 others like them are depending on us to keep them safe from a life threatening virus.

And we'll do everything in our power to do just that.
