Book Blog Hop

I'm so excited!!
My first Hop!

"In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read!"

Just what I need...
more books and more book blogs to read
:):)

This week's question is:
"When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?"

I'm OCD about this kind of stuff...I have to finish it.  I'm one of those geeks who read almost everything I was ever assigned in school.  Now, I can't promise I was fully engaged in whatever the book was...I just had to read it.  I still do.
When I'm choosing books I try to stay away from genres I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I do not enjoy...I am not a fan of "romance" novels, for example, and there are certain authors that because of prior negative experiences I won't even consider giving another try (Nicholas Sparks).  I can also usually pick up a book in the bookstore that I'm not sure about and read a page or two and know whether or not to even give it a try.  I was hesitant to read the Dexter books bc of this very reason; of course, halfway through, I'm glad I gave it a go...
I probably miss some good books by being so picky...but that's also why I love to read book blogs.  I've found more than a few books on other people's blogs that I might not have read otherwise.

Come on over to Crazy for Books and Hop around with me!!!

  1. Hi-

Welcome to your first blog hop! I'm like you in that I want to hold my book in my hand. I won't make the switch to an ebook. It's the whole point of having a book, holding it in your hand feeling it's weight the cover, oh the cover love...I've bough so many books just for the cover. Not a Nicholas Sparks fan or any of the Cookie Cutter novelists. Cover love made me buy Fallen.

Usually the blog hop is very successful, but you do have to hop around to other people's sites so they'll hop back.

I'm a transplanted Southerner. I miss the South. They don't know what sweet tea is!!!!

I can't tell what book that is you're listening to by Sue Monk Kidd and Ann Kidd Taylor. Will you email me and let me know? I love Sue Monk Kidd.

    Well Bye Ya'all,

  3. Hello! I just found you on the hop! I am loving your blog so far, and that adorable kitty is making me want a cat of my own :)

I wish I had the patience to stick it out and finish a book I'm not enjoying! I usually have to quit after 100 pages if I'm really not liking a book.

Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Hi! Just hopping buy. I'm someone who always has to finish books. I think I've only stopped reading two or three books in my entire reading career. With some of the bad books I've read, I've often thought, if I read a little more, I'll get to the good part. Sometimes that works, sometimes I'm disappointed.

Also, your cat looks like my cat. (I'm guessing that's your cat in your header.)

  5. hi there! thanks for stopping by my book blog, my kozy korner and saying hello. I love your header, I have a black cat too :-)

I stopped reading the Dexter series...I liked the first one a lot, the second one was ok and I didn't like the third....like you, I am picky about what I read. I always admired a friend of mine who could read every book she picked up, even if she didn't enjoy it, she finished it. She is very knowledgable because of it.

  8. Obviously if you stuck with the PhD you are a finisher! I am learning to quit on books that aren't good. I would rather reread a classic (like Crime and Punishment) or read a great book that I haven't read yet (like Daniel Deronda)....I'm stopping by on the blog hop and just became your latest follower.
