I've been a fan of Thanksgiving for a looooonnnnngggg time.
My LOVE of Thanksgiving probably was cemented in 1989 when my husband of only 8 months and I stood in 6 inches of snow and watched the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC.
All he remembers is that a coke in NYC was $4.
What is it with men???

I have said again and again on this blog that I am not a cryer...and I'm not...but on Thanksgiving Day when the Macy's parade begins on television...I tear up...every. single. year.
I love Thanksgiving that much!
I love Thanksgiving that much!
Anyhoo, I love Thanksgiving so much that I REFUSE to take part in any Christmas shenanigans before December. Thanksgiving seems to get smooshed between the hoopla of Halloween and the commercialized chaos that Christmas has become...makes me angry.
BUT...
Ahem...
Cough Cough...
I want so badly to participate in the Secret Santa Book Swaps this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my goodness I felt like such a little child when I saw the blog postings introducing the swaps.
That's when I decided to break my own rules. :)
That's when I decided to break my own rules. :)
I'm justifying breaking my own rules because I do have to buy gifts before December...and I do have to make travel plans, start the calendar etc. before December.
The Secret Santa book swaps have to be started before December so that the wonderful organizers of these evenst have time to organize, match up bloggers and oversee all the sending and receiving along with all their other holiday responsibilities!!
For Heaven's sakes! What a job!!
Actually, all that really takes place before December for us signer uppers is just that...signing up.

We don't actually send out our gifts till the first week of December!
See how easy it is to justify breaking the rules ? ;)
Let me tell you something else about myself.
I love to give books as gifts...especially to those who I know will appreciate them.
The idea of sending a book to someone who I know will be excited when the package arrives gives me chill bumps!!
Book Blogger Secret Santa Swaps...
oh my...
what a wonderful opportunity to give...
and to give to someone who will love it...
and to give a book to someone who will love it...
This is a win-win situation for me.
I'm in.
Why don't you come too??
Go on over and sign up for the Book Blogger Holiday Swap...you have until Nov. 14!!

I'm in the UK and we don't have Thanksgiving. It looks like such a fun holiday!
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday it makes me sad it gets rushed through. But thanks for the Secret Santa notices. I knew about Nicole's but the Broke and Bookish is new to me.
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to mention I would happily help you grade papers if I could.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the Thanksgiving holiday. It's one of my favorites and I hate when it is rushed by. I wish I had joined the Giving Thanks Challenge but I saw it too late. I'm enjoying watching your thankfulness in your sidebar.
ReplyDeleteLOL glad you broke your rules! :D
ReplyDeleteWhoops! I should have signed up for this already-it sounds like bookish fun! It's always good to break a few of your own rules. I don't like to do anything Christmasy until after Thanksgiving also.
